Misogyny is the hallmark of AMMA: Filmmaker Dr Biju

KANNUR: The activities of AMMA is based on the mafia concepts, without any considerations for the democratic values, said award-winning film director Dr Biju.

While inaugurating the monsoon film festival of Kannur Press Club at Kannur, he said that, misogyny is the hallmark of the organisation.

There are not enough representation for female artists in the organisation and how can one expect a women friendly atmosphere and pro women stand from it, he asked. One can easily recognise the anti-women stand of the main stream films, including the films in which superstars act.

This can be seen outside the films too, as the entire film industry reeks of this malice, said Biju. When the society promotes films which hail anti-women stance, one feel very anxious about the future of our mainstream films, he said.

Some people argue that films are made to entertain the people. But, should it be at the cost of standard of films? Actors had made people laugh before, like Charlie Chaplin. It is those who doesn't have any talent, make the people laugh through low level comedies.

How many from the film world has expressed their support to the female stars who had resigned in protest? The stand of the elected representatives of the people in the organisation is lamentable.

At least, from now on, one would hope that, political parties would give seats to those cultural leaders who have some sense of democracy in their minds, he said.It is sad to see that the main stream political parties have stooped down to the level of fans associations of super stars, said film director T Deepesh. Film society president Mattannur Surendran presided over the function.

AFSI regional committee member C Mohanan, Film critic KJ Siju, Film society secretary UP Santhosh and joint secretary K Vijesh spoke. The screening of Shaji N Karun's masterpiece Piravi was held after the inaugural function.
