THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BSNL is all set to launch a new internet telephony service in the state based on Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), BSNL Wings. This allows users to place calls from Android, Windows and Apple iOS-based mobile devices, Tablets, OCs and laptops without a SIM card, utilising the internet services of any operator, said P T Mathew, chief general manager, Kerala circle. The facility will start rolling from August 1.

Customers, on registration, will receive a 10-digit virtual phone number along with the connection with which they can make or receive calls. BSNL Wings offers unlimited calls to any network in the country at a one-time registration fee of `1,099. The service will give customers national/international roaming facilities and customers can make India bound calls while roaming abroad at a cheaper rate. He said there would be free incoming in roaming for the customers.

Those having poor mobile coverage can take advantage of the service to make and receive calls through their home WiFi internet, Mathew said. He said customers can call any landline or mobile using the facility. BSNL is the first operator in the country to offer internet telephony services. He said while mobile phone connectivity is enhancing, the landline is not showing any growth.
