THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister K K Shylaja has ordered an inquiry into the allegation hospitals were provided with sub-standard gloves. The minister, while seeking an immediate report on the matter, directed the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd (KMSCL) managing director to look into the allegation.

It is learnt, though KMSCL had informed it had followed all relevant procedures in the purchase of gloves, the minister directed KMSCL to temporarily withdrew from the purchase of gloves in the backdrop of the allegation. Confirming the move, the Health Minister’s Office said it has also been decided to send some samples for quality check.  “The allegation that sub-standard gloves were provided to health workers during Nipah prevention is baseless,” said Shylaja. “KMSCL had ensured the quality of safety gear before distribution.”
