THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister C P John announced the launch of KSRTC’s ‘Project Surya,’ an initiative aimed at transforming the corporation’s operations and physical fleet. Implemented as part of the government’s 100-day action plan, the project prioritises refurbishing existing high-standard buses at a fraction of the cost than allocating funds to purchase new vehicles.
While purchasing a brand-new bus requires an investment of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh, BS-III and BS-IV category buses are being upgraded to Deluxe and Superfast standards for just Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh. He said the refurbishment includes 26 buses in Super Class category, 52 in Fast Passenger and Super Fast categories, and 22 in the Ordinary category.
