ROURKELA: Members of the Sikh community today took out an impressive procession as part of the three-day celebrations of the 540th birth anniversary celebration of Sri Guru Nanak Devji.

As per tradition, believers in Sikhism cutting across age and genders swept the route with brooms. The procession was led by a decked vehicle carrying the holy book Guru Granth Sahib with Sikh priest chanting extracts from the holy book. The procession was set off from the Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha (GSGSS) near the railway station which culminated at the starting point after covering the Ring Road, Uditnagar and the Main Road.

Among others, GSGSS president S Ram Singh and vice-president Gurmeet Singh and a host of community leaders attended. The day was also marked by religious activites at the GSGSS which included singing of ‘bhajans’ and preaching on Sikhism. The celebration ends on Thursday with the Guru Ka Langar (distribution of prasad) ritual at the Guru Nanak Public School premises.
