BHUBANESWAR: The Bargarh Lok Sabha constituency was carved out in the delimitation exercise from Sambalpur and Deogarh constituencies.

Deogarh Lok Sabha constituency was abolished in the exercise.

So far the three main political parties in the State, the BJD, BJP and Congress are yet to announce their candidates.

As the constituency is new, the BJD is still in the process of finding out suitable candidate for the seat while BJP has not announced the party candidates as it is yet to finalise whom to nominate.

The name of Sanjay Bhoi is doing the rounds as the Congress candidate though there are several more aspirants.

Sources, however, maintained that Bhoi has emerged as the frontrunner.

Bhoi had lost to BJD’s Prasanna Acharya by a close margin in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls.

Out of the seven assembly segments, Attabira is reserved for the scheduled castes (SCs).

Padampur, Bijepur, Bargarh, Bhatli, Brajrajnagar and Jharsuguda are for the general candidates.
