BHUBANESWAR: Orissa Bigyan Academy (OBA) has named Prof. Lalit Mohan Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune, and Prof Gyanadeb Maharana of Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar, as joint winners of the Biju Patnaik Award for excellence in science for the year 2007.

While the Samanta Chandra Sekhar Award (for scientists working in Orissa) went to Anatha Bandhu Das, senior scientist of Regional Plant Resource Centre, Bhubaneswar, in life science category, for engineering and technology Atmaram Mishra of Water Technology Centre for Eastern Region, Bhubaneswar, got the award. For scientist working outside the State, Prof. Ramanath Mishra, HoD, Clinical Immunology, Sanjay Gandhi PG Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, has been nominated.

Orissa Young Scientist Award has gone to Rabindra Kumar Mishra of department of Botany, Utkal University, and Subhranshu Ranjan Samantaray of NIT Rourkela for life science and engineering and technology categories respectively.

For popular science writing in Oriya Dr Kalyani Dash, Mayadhar Swain and Bhagabat Prasad Das would receive the award in general, children’s category and neo-literate sections.

Senior scientists Prof Kulamani Samal, Prof Sadananda Tarasia and Prof Anadi Charan Dash would also be felicitated, said OBA secretary Sanatan Rana.
