For the last year and a half, Shahid Kapoor has been working hard to give character and soul to Harinder Singh, whom he describes as an “incurable romantic.” The fact that Mausam is co-produced and directed by his father, Pankaj Kapoor, could also explain his single-minded commitment to the project. Career-wise, last year was dismal for Kapoor, who suffered four flops and was talked about more for his romantic link-ups than projects. But with Mausam scheduled to release soon, the actor is back in action — his tweets are all about Mausam, be it his appearance with co-star Sonam Kapoor on the KBC show or gushing over the movie’s soundtrack. More from the actor:
Describe your character in Mausam.
The movie is essentially a love story where my character’s progression is shown from a 17-year-old adolescent to a mature adult. In the course of time, I visit various countries, meet different people and the seasons of love keep changing. It is not another run-of-the-mill film. The USP is that it’s a journey. on one side, you are going to see the innocence of Punjab and on the other, a mature air force officer.
Your look is already the talk of the town.
Obviously, my biggest excitement is playing an Air Force officer for the first time. It’s a dream role and really cool. And yes, the moustache added maturity. Sonam thought I reminded her of her dad in Pukar. But she maintains that her dad looked better. (laughs)
Any reference point for the role?
My dad’s granduncle was an Air Force officer and I always found him fascinating. Also, I met a lot of Air Force officers to get the body language, look and behaviour right.
Your dad got you and Sonam to write letters?
They weren’t really love letters, just small notes to help us get into character as the couple communicate through elaborate love letters. I found it really quaint.
Are you a romantic?
Of course, I believe in unconditional love. I think love stories are always beautiful and inspirational. I want to find such a love story in my life.
