Education, character panacea for social evils: SC Judge

Express News Service

Education and character building are the only solutions to social inequality and discrimination, Justice Gyan Sudha Misra of the Supreme Court said here on Saturday.

Justice Misra was delivering a seminar lecture on ‘Social Justice: Issues & Challenges’ at KIIT Law School here. She said one person cannot change the whole community, awareness must be raised amongst all through education.

A healthy society can be established only after ending all discriminations and inequalities, she stressed.

Justice Misra said social justice cannot be achieved only by legislation. In spite of various provisions of social justice in the Constitution, there still exists discrimination and it is society’s responsibility to realise the dream of social justice as enshrined in the Constitution, she said.

The SC Judge felt that parents have an equal responsibility to mould the thought process of the children from the very beginning. KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta and KIIT University Chancellor Prof NL Mitra spoke on the occasion.
