The State Pollution Control Board has issued partial closure notice to Action Ispat and Power Ltd and SMC Power Generation Ltd here.
The notice was issued on Wednesday following visit of regional officer of State Pollution Control Board Hemendra Naik to both the plants last month. Naik had found violation of pollution control norms and sent a report to the Board’s office at Bhubaneswar.
Although the Board had issued partial closure notice to both the sponge iron plants on May 23, the managements did not paid heed and continued production.
The regional officer and other members of the Board visited the plants on Wednesday and closed the kilns in the plants. Both the plants have two 350 tonne kilns each.
