Nuances of fiction writing

Diana Sahu

Interested in fiction writing? If you are aged 18 and above, here’s an opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade at the Bakul Library. Shailen Mishra, a novelist and short story writer, will orient participants about fiction writing at a four-week-long Fiction Writers Workshop at Bakul Library from June 21 to July 14.

Mishra, who holds an MFA in Creative Writing from North Carolina State University (USA) and is currently pursuing PhD in Creative Writing at Illinois State University (USA), will guide participants through the process of imagining and executing a short story. The workshop is aimed at intermediate to advanced fiction writers who need to submit a letter of interest two weeks in advance.

The course will involve study of craft of fiction writing, reading/analysis of contemporary fiction, writing short stories, feedback through workshop and, finally, tips and advice on how to send story out for publication.

‘’You need not have to be published before to attend this workshop. If you are fiercely interested in fiction writing, you are serious about your craft, and you want to become a better writer through constructive criticism, then you will be benefited from this workshop. The class will be conducted in the model of creative writing workshop, prevalent and popular in the US academia,’’ said Mishra.
