Six get lifer for murder over sorcery

Six persons were awarded life imprisonment by Additional District Judge of Kuchinda on Tuesday for their involvement in murder of a man and his daughter in 2004.

They are Lalit Toppo, Methyl Hembram, Gaji Kujur, Ranjit Bag, Rajendra Bahala and Salim Kisan.

They have also been imposed Rs10,000 fine and in default, they will have to undergo two years of additional imprisonment. Two other accused - Chandra Kisan and Rathi Majhi - were let off by the court in the absence of evidence.

On September 1,2004, they had killed Vincent Hembram of Ragba village under Gobindpur police limits suspecting him of performing black magic.

On the next day, they strangulated Veronica to death. Both the bodies were set ablaze in a nearby forest.
