Holistic style

Aakanksha Devi

It began with an introduction  to yoga at the age of 11 under BKS Iyengar in Pune. Now, Roshen Amin is the proud creator of Sacred Lotus — a line dedicated to asana practices. “During my years of yoga, I realised the need for practical yet aesthetic clothing for women,” she tells us, adding that it was essential to have clothing that would allow her and others to stretch freely. “Tops that would allow me to stretch and bend, without distracting me by riding up high, or gaping open,” she chuckles.

Ready to stretch

So if you too have spent uncomfortable minutes holding your top down instead  of your position, then perhaps you should browse through Amin’s collection of T-shirts, pants, capris and shorts. And what’s more, Iyengar himself has given this collection a thumbs up, declared it “perfect for yoga” and branded it with the “Infinitely Iyengar” logo. Explaining what makes her merchandise stand apart from the rest, the yoga expert tells us that they use fabrics and textiles that are completely natural, pro-ducing it from raw fibre imported from Austria. “Our fabrics are produced in accordance with the principles of sustainability. We use modal — soft, supple and absorbant material, and promodal — natural cellulose fibres derived from beech wood and eucalyptus for our clothes,” she explains and assures us that the garments allow free movement, thanks to the five per cent elasticity. A mix of style and support, the clothes range from shorts, capris and tights to sleeveless tank tops and short-sleeved tops with longer lengths for better comfort — all part of the Infinitely Iyengar range. For the trendy lounging lass, they also have lovely jackets and wraps. We particularly liked their asymmetrical black jacket called Bhakti for its design and flowy silhouette. The Savitri, a graceful white wrap, also made it to our wishlist. Look out for their parallel pants, harem pants, Indoethnic kurtas and elegant tops for day or night. Amin works with a Ukrainian pattern designer, ensuring a finish that is flattering and comfortable.

Made in Pondy

She reveals that the clothes are manufactured in a fair trade unit in Auroville in Pondicherry where ‘the tailors, women and artistes who produce them are extremely well cared for in a professional and supportive work space’.  “Working within Auroville helps me create a totally holis-tic product, whereby the energy that goes into the whole creation process is extremely positive,” Amin says. While the entire range is available online, select pieces are available at the Good Earth Store in UB City, Bangalore, as well as stores in New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
