Light Rain Likely in 24 Hours

BHUBANESWAR: Four towns in Western Odisha recorded temperature of above 40 degree Celsius even as sunstroke deaths reached 40 in the State.

Sambalpur remained the hottest place with the mercury at 41.4 degree Celsius while Hirakud and Jharsuguda recorded 40.7 and 40.5 degree Celsius respectively. Angul was the other town which recorded 40.1 degree Celsius. Lowest day temperature of 27.4 degree C was recorded at Koraput.

Met department prediction said light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur over a few places in Southern Odisha districts and light rain or thundershower may occur over one or two places in North Odisha districts. Bhubaneswar and its neighbourhood would have partly cloudy sky during next 24 hours.

The weather office forecast said rain or thundershower may occur at many places over Odisha on June 12. There will be increase in rainfall from June 13 to June 15, it said.

According to the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), eight sunstroke deaths were reported in Ganjam district followed by six in Kendrapara district. The State Government had received 159 complaints of sunstroke deaths out of which 40 were confirmed. The SRC office said 73 deaths were not due to sunstroke while inquiry into 46 complaints is on.
