Minor girl beaten with hot frying pan by employer in Bhubaneswar, CWC registers case

BHUBANESWAR: Amidst reports of children being branded hot iron pouring in from different parts of the State, a gruesome case of corporal punishment in the Capital City, a 10-year-old girl was beaten with hot frying pan by her employer couple.

The incident occurred in Bhimtangi area under Airfield police limits here. The couple, an engineer and his bank officer wife tortured the child on several occasions earlier before a good samaritan informed Bhubaneswar Childline about the matter.

A joint team of Childline and local police rescued the minor girl and produced her before the Khurda Child Welfare Committee on Saturday. She was sent to a childcare centre after her statements were recorded by the CWC.

The child mentioned that she was working at the couple’s house since October 2015. While she belongs to Choudwar in Cuttack district, the CWC is verifying under what circumstances the girl landed up in the Capital City.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the CWC in this connection, Airfield Police have begun a probe into the barbaric act, the police said.
