399 cadets pass out from fire academy

BHUBANESWAR: As many as 399 cadets completed their six-month training course at Odisha Fire and Disaster Response Academy (OFDRA) here on Wednesday. Among the graduates, 297 completed the course for Fireman training while the rest graduated as Fireman Drivers (FMD).

This is the 57th Fireman batch and ninth batch of FMD passing out from OFDRA. The passing-out parade of the outgoing batches was organised on academy premises at Baramunda in the City. This is the first batch which was imparted training on diving in saltwater, freshwater and troubled waters. The focus was on acclimatising the cadets with specialised equipment and modern gadgets used in rescue operations. The training included a special course on scuba diving held at Ramchandi in Puri district.

DG Police, Fire Services and Home Guards Binoy Behera reviewed the parade and addressed the new recruits on the occasion. Among others, IG Police, Fire Services Dr Santosh Bala and OFDRA Principal Maheswar Swain were present.
