CUTTACK: Jogamaya Rout, a student of Udaynath Autonomous College at Adaspur, has topped Plus Two Commerce examination in the district by securing 530 marks.

Born into a poor family at Anlo village in Niali block, Jogamaya has been able to continue her studies by manufacturing and selling incense sticks.

She has become an example for other poverty-stricken students. Sheer hard work and determination has brought success to her, said Jogamaya, second daughter of Dukhishyam Rout and Sailabala Rout.

Jogamaya’s elder sister Punyatoya had to discontinue her studies after passing BSc last year due to financial problem. Her younger sister, who has cleared Matriculation examination with more than 60 per cent marks, had to drop out due to poverty.

Jogamaya studied for five hours daily and even extended a helping hand to her mother in the latter’s tailoring job.

She aims to be a Chartered Accountant.

Niali BDO Renuprabha Nayak and block chairman Nayabrata Rout visited her on Thursday and assured her of support for her study.
