DMET raid on Ayush Hospital

Express News Service

BHUBANESWAR: A State-level inspection team, led by joint Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET), on Wednesday raided Ayush Hospital and Trauma Care at Acharya Vihar here and found several discrepancies pertaining to health services.

Sources said the 120-bed six-storey private hospital was issued a conditional licence recently and asked to comply with fire safety norms within one month. Earlier, it was issued licence for a period of two years from August 7, 2012.

Joint DMET Umakanta Satapathy said there was no proper waste disposal system in the hospital which is yet to equip itself to thwart and handle fire mishaps.

During the raid, only five patients, including one in the ICU, were spotted in the hospital while beds were found in unhygienic conditions. “In contravention of Odisha Clinical Establishment Act, doctors and required number of staff were absent while some persons, who identified themselves as pharmacists, could not tell about life saving drugs,” Satapathy said claiming that the hospital is not fit to treat any patient.

The joint DMET informed that a show-cause notice will be served soon on the proprietor of the hospital as to why it should not be closed down. Hospital authorities could not be contacted.
