Insurance fraud racket busted, cop arrested

CUTTACK: Police on Sunday exposed a fraudulent insurance claim racket by arresting an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police and a truck owner.

The arrested are In-Charge Officer of Bhadreswar outpost Duryodhan Sethy and truck owner Hari Hara Pradhan of Berhampur under Khuntuni police limits.

Sources said one Gadadhar Das of Indrani Patana, a nephew of Hari Hara and manager of his vehicle, filed a false complaint in Bhadreswar police outpost on December 17, 2015 stating names of seven persons who were injured in an accident involving the truck near Haladia.

Das had also submitted false injury reports obtained from Salepur CHC in this connection to claim insurance from Chola Mandalam MS General Insurance Company Ltd. Salepur SDPO Sujogya Mishra then filed an FIR with Mahanga police against ASI Sethy, the then Mahanga police station IIC Soumendu Shekhar Tripathy, Paediatric Specialist of Salepur CHC Dr RK Nayak, Claim advocate Prafulla Sarangi, owner and the manger of the truck.
