BERHAMPUR: Traffic of NH 16 near Humma was disrupted for several hours on Saturday following death of a schoolgirl in road accident. Pushpa Pradhan, a Class 9 student of Birabhadra High School, was returning home when the mishap took place. She was crossing the highway when a speeding truck hit her from behind, killing the girl on the spot. Driver of the truck fled the spot following the accident. Locals gathered at the spot and blocked the road demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. The blockade was withdrawn after Chatrapur Sub-Collector Sudhakar Sabar, ASP Gupta Mahakud and other officials rushed to the spot and facilitated release of `12,000 from Red Cross fund besides, assuring payment of compensation of `2 lakh.
