Major fire in two Odisha districts

RAYAGADA/SAMBALPUR:Two major fires gutted equipment worth lakhs in Rayagada and Sambalpur districts on Tuesday. 

In the tribal district of Rayagada, 11 transformers and two departmental jeeps were reduced to ashes due to a short circuit at a sub-station of Gridco in  Siriguda of Rayagada town here on Tuesday afternoon.

Accessories of 33 kv sub-station, including transformer, worth Rs 40 lakh were damaged. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames. No human casualty was reported.

In the Western Odisha district of Sambalpur, fire broke out in the godown of surgical items located on the premises of Mausi Maa temple at Burla here on Tuesday. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Reports said locals first noticed the blaze and informed the fire brigade. Five fire tenders and 15 fire fighters were engaged to douse the flames. Station Officer, Burla Fire Station, Lokeswar Patel said it took the team around four hours to bring the blaze under control. The loss of property is yet to be estimated, he added.
