JAGATSINGHPUR: Setting an example for the society, a family in Jagatsinghpur district donated the entire marriage expenses of their son towards the Army Welfare Fund instead of splurging on the decorations and other arrangements.


Basudev, an activist of Gana Sangram Parishad, of Sipi Makundpur village under Jagatsinghpur police limits, performed his son Biplab Kumar Lenin’s marriage without accepting any dowry or gifts.

He even skipped the illumination and decoration expenses and conducted the marriage in a simple way in a temple.
Biplab, who works as a technical consultant in a company in New Delhi, was married to Subhshree  Panda of Narua under Derabisis police limits here. The family decided to save the entire marriage expenses and donate it to the Army Welfare Fund.


Basudev also conducted an awareness meeting to urge the people to  avoid unnecessary expenses during marriage. He stressed on strict implementation of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 to curb the evils of dowry.


Basudev donated around `40,000 to the Army Fund, which he managed to save from the wedding expenses. Impressed by his move,  locals donated another `10,000 for the fund.
