BHUBANESWAR: BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday visited Basantpur village under Tikarpara panchayat near Dhauli under the booth level contact programme. Incidentally, Shah had renewed his party membership from a village in historic Dhauli gram panchayat, on the outskirts of the city, in January 2015.
Shah, on the last day of his three-day tour to the State, visited the houses of Bansidhar Sethi, Harihar Sahu and Arun Purohit in the village and spent sometime with each family.
While explaining the purpose of his visit, the BJP chief handed over leaflets containing achievements of Narendra Modi Government and the Central assistance to the State in the last three years. “Being a poor man, I feel honoured by his (Shah’s) visit to my house. I offered him coconut water which he accepted,” said Sethi.
Addressing party workers at Booth 191 of Ekamra Assembly constituency, Shah said he has been travelling on roads and meeting people in their houses while Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik preferred to make his journey by aircraft within the State.
After learning that basic necessities for people like electricity, drinking water, health and education for the village have not been met by the State Government, Shah appealed to the party workers to educate the people about their rights and work towards the defeat of the BJD Government in next election.
