BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Friday directed SC/ST Department and Koraput Collector to provide an interim financial assistance of `50,000 to the mother of Kunduli gang-rape victim.
As per the recommendation of OHRC, Khurda Collector and District Magistrate had earlier provided financial assistance of `10,000 to the victim.
The rights panel has also directed that the minor girl be admitted to Ekalavya Model Residential School in Kunduli and sought a compliance report by November 27.
The minor girl, who is a Class IX student, was shifted to a child care centre in Dumiriput after being discharged from the hospital on November 3.
The petitioners had urged the Commission that though the victim was getting protection at the child care centre, she was deprived of getting education.
The Commission has also directed Crime Branch ADG to submit a status report of investigation within four weeks, one of the petitioners Biswapriya Kanungo said.
Earlier this week, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered a judicial probe and directed the Crime Branch to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital deposed before the Commission on Friday and submitted the bed head ticket and the treatment provided to the victim. He had earlier submitted the medico-legal report to OHRC.
The victim was admitted to the hospital on October 10 and was discharged on October 27. She was again admitted to the hospital on November 1 and was discharged on November 3.
On October 10, the girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men in uniform in Koraput’s Kunduli. However, the State Police said investigation rules out rape triggering a controversy.
