KENDRAPARA: Vigilance sleuths seized incriminating documents from tehsil offices of Derabishi, Garadapur, Kendrapara Municipality and the District Land Registrar Office in connection with leasing out of river banks for sand mining to gangster Usman Ali alias Tito and his associates on Wednesday. Tehsildars were also quizzed.

Earlier, the Special Task Force of the Crime Branch had summoned tehsildars of Kendrapara, Mahakalpada, Pattamundei, Garadpur and Marsaghari in Kendrapara district and Dharmasala and  Balichandrapur in Jajpur district to provide them information about leasing out of river banks to the gangster. Sources said he had managed to get contracts for construction and repair of roads under Kendrapara civic limits and made crores of rupees by doing substandard work.

Tito was produced in the court of JFMC at Rajnagar in connection with a tender fixing case on Wednesday. The court rejected his bail petition and remanded him in judicial custody. Similar raids were conducted at Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Chandikhol in Jajpur. A four-member team of Cuttack Vigilance, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sisir Kumar Sahoo, verified many documents at the office over allegations of undue favour shown to Tito.
