BHUBANESWAR: Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena may have got many awards, but the award by the Bhubaneswar Zilla Congress for the city’s dismal performance in Swachh Sarvekshan is unique.
Even as Jena admitted that poor show in solid waste management and open defecation brought the city down from the last year’s rank in the Centre’s nationwide survey, the district Congress committee awarded him with ‘Best Sanitation Puraskar’.

A witty citation issued by the Congress committee stated that the Mayor has made a unique record for letting garbage pile up along roads and turning the city streets into small water bodies after a short spell of rain.

“The residents of Bhubaneswar have got the result of your hardwork. The city has slipped from 94th position to 245th in the cleanliness list. The success has made everyone jealous. We feel privileged to confer with you with the award,” the citation read.
