Couple held for running sex racket on job pretext in Odisha

Three women, whom the duo had engaged in the flesh trade, were also rescued on the day and sent back home.

BARIPADA: Bhanjpur police in Mayurbhanj district on Thursday arrested a couple for allegedly running a sex racket on the pretext of providing jobs to gullible women at Raghunathpur area here.

The accused were identified as 27-year-old Abhimanyu Sethy and his wife Rubi of Baripada town. Three women, whom the duo had engaged in the flesh trade, were also rescued on the day and sent back home.

Sources said the couple had brought the women from other states on the pretext of providing them jobs but engaged them in flesh trade. Acting on a tip-off, police tracked the activities of the victim women and rescued them. During interrogation, they revealed details of the illegal activity. Subsequently, the cops raided the couple’s house in Raghunathpur on Wednesday night and took them into custody.

On being quizzed, the duo confessed that earlier they used to run the sex racket at their rented accommodation in Tulasichaura and continued the same even after shifting to their own house in Raghunathpur.

Baripada sub-divisional police officer Sujit Kumar Jena said a case was registered and the couple arrested. “Their house in Raghunathpur has been sealed. The accused will be produced in court after some formalities. Further investigation is underway,” he added.
