Odisha CM Majhi to join 150th anniversary celebration of ‘Vande Mataram’ today

The ruling BJP will celebrate it in a grand manner with a series of cultural and patriotic events across the state from Friday (November 7) to November 26.

BHUBANESWAR: CM Mohan Charan Majhi will join the inaugural function, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the iconic national song ‘Vande Mataram’, at the Lok Seva Bhawan here on Friday.

The programme will be live-streamed from the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium at New Delhi. PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the year-long commemoration of the national song written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. The function will witness mass singing of the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ in public places with participation of citizens from across all segments of society.

The ruling BJP will celebrate it in a grand manner with a series of cultural and patriotic events across the state from Friday (November 7) to November 26. The central government has decided to organise special programmes at 150 locations of the country on the occasion. “In Odisha, the inaugural events will be organised in five major cities - Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Balasore, Keonjhar and Rourkela - on Friday. From November 8 to 26, each legislative constituency in the state will host a dedicated programme to honour the legacy of the song,” said state BJP vice-president Bishnu Das.

The celebrations will commence at 9.30 am with mass singing of the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’.
