In Odisha Vigilence department nabs tehsildar with Rs 5L cash

Based on a tip-off, a Vigilance team stopped his car while he was travelling from his office at Lathikata to his residence in Rourkela, and recovered the cash.

ROURKELA: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday nabbed a tehsildar in Sundargarh district while he was allegedly travelling with unaccounted cash of Rs 5 lakh to his residence in a four-wheeler.

The accused, Muralidhar Urmal, is posted as the tehsildar-cum-sub-registrar of Lathikata. He was reportedly apprehended with the unaccounted cash near Rajabasa chowk.

Based on a tip-off, a Vigilance team stopped his car while he was travelling from his office at Lathikata to his residence in Rourkela, and recovered the cash. Vigilance sources said Urmal reportedly failed to satisfactorily explain the source of the cash. Subsequently, the cash along with the vehicle was seized.

Following the seizure, simultaneous searches were conducted at three locations linked to Urmal to trace any ill-gotten wealth allegedly amassed by the senior revenue officer.

Vigilance teams raided the tehsildar’s office at Lathikata, his official residence at New LIC colony in Rourkela’s Civil Township and another location.
