Jajpur to Bhubaneswar bus veers off NH-16 near Tangi toll gate; 10 injured

CUTTACK: At least 10 passengers, including women and children sustained injuries, two of them critically, after a speeding private bus in which they were travelling allegedly lost balance and veered off the NH-16 near Bandalo toll gate under Tangi police limits here on Sunday afternoon.

As per reports, the private bus was carrying passengers from Jajpur to Bhubaneswar when the incident took place near the toll plaza office. Eyewitnesses said the bus lost balance and veered off the road, breaking through the concrete barricade before coming to a halt.

On getting information, police reached the spot, rescued seven passengers and took them to SCB MCH in an ambulance. Tangi IIC Bikash Sethi said condition of two of them was critical and doctors were closely monitoring the situation. Some other passengers, including those who sustained minor injuries, were sent to their respective destinations in a separate bus, he said.

“The bus driver fled the spot soon after the incident. The bus has been seized and further investigation is underway,” Sethi informed.
