One arrested in IPL betting racket case

Investigation revealed that Rajani was allegedly providing betting IDs and passwords to customers through WhatsApp and facilitating online wagering.

BERHAMPUR: Bada Bazaar police in Berhampur arrested a 27-year-old man for his alleged involvement in IPL betting racket on Sunday.

The accused is Rajani Ranjan Rauta of Shanti Nagar in Berhampur.

Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said a police team was patrolling near First Gate on Saturday night when it received information regarding illegal online betting activities near Auto Nagar.

Police conducted a raid and apprehended the accused while he was allegedly operating betting transactions on ‘Sky Exchange’ platform during the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans. Police seized two mobile phones and Rs 50,200 from him.

Investigation revealed that Rajani was allegedly providing betting IDs and passwords to customers through WhatsApp and facilitating online wagering.

Vivek said the accused was produced in court. The process to freeze linked bank accounts and digital transaction channels is underway. Investigation is continuing to identify and trace other persons connected to the racket.
