BALASORE: A 46-year-old man suffered grievous injuries after being allegedly assaulted by his two sons over a land dispute in Tundapada village under Soro police limits here on Friday. The victim is Ganesh Barik.

Police said Ganesh was at loggerheads with his sons Kiran Barik (23) and Khirod Barik (19) for the last several years over a dispute pertaining to his ancestral property. He reportedly did not want to share the property among his two sons.

On Friday, Kiran and Khirod called their father to Soro court to resolve the dispute. Accordingly, Ganesh reached the court and participated in the discussion on ways to share the property. During the deliberations, a heated argument broke out between him and his sons.

In a fit of rage, Kiran grabbed a sharp weapon, which he had kept hidden, and allegedly attacked Ganesh. Khirod too joined his brother in assaulting their father.

People present on the court premises rescued a critically-injured Ganesh and rushed him to Soro hospital. He was later shifted to Balasore district headquarters hospital after his condition deteriorated.

Following the incident, Khirod was caught by people and handed over to Soro police. Kiran is absconding. A case has been registered on basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s relative. Efforts are on to nab the absconding son and investigation is underway, said police.
