BHUBANESWAR: BJD MP Sulata Deo has lodged a complaint against regional news channel Focus Plus editor Sudhansu Sekhar Rout with Parliament Street police in New Delhi, accusing him of posting derogatory remarks and threatening to rape and murder her, on social media.

As per Deo’s complaint, Rout allegedly posted abusive content against Deo and even threatened to rape and murder her on Facebook page of Focus Plus. Investigation revealed the content was widely circulated and undermined the dignity of a member of Parliament.

Subsequently, the Parliament Street police transferred the complaint to their counterparts in Bhubaneswar. On receiving the complaint, Cyber Crime and Economic Offence police registered a case against Rout under various sections of BNS.

Cyber Crime police requested the court for Rout’s judicial remand as Khandagiri police had arrested him earlier in the month for allegedly threatening a man over a personal dispute.

Rout was previously booked in another case registered at Capital police station for his alleged defamatory remarks against School and Mass Education minister Nityananda Gond. In July, the city police sealed the office for Rout’s alleged defamatory remarks and bribery claims against Gond.
