ROURKELA: A 24-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh was found dead with multiple injuries in a drain near the railway track in the IDC area of Kalunga on the outskirts of Rourkela on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Chhotelal Sahni, a native of Uttar Pradesh who resided in the Brahmani Tarang area. Sources said he had been working as a cutter at a sponge iron plant in Kalunga for the past few years.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) said a preliminary investigation suggested that Sahni died accidentally after being hit and dragged by a train. His body, which was lying inside the drain and concealed by thick bushes, was spotted by locals, who informed the Brahmani Tarang police. The police then informed the GRP.
Rourkela GRP IIC Sasmita Sahu said the injuries appeared consistent with Sahni being hit and dragged by a train while crossing the railway track. One of his legs was twisted and fractured at two places below the thigh, while he had injuries to his head that could have been caused by being dragged over the railway ballast. He also sustained severe injuries to his genitals, the IIC said.
