COONOOR: A 40-foot high trishool, hailed to be the first of its kind in South India, is being installed at Brahmeshwar Mandir that is under construction at the Nilgiri foothills on the banks of Kallar River.
The temple is being constructed under the guidance of Mathaji Gurupriyanandaji, head of the 30-year-old Sri Sarada Brahma Vidya Kendra in Coonoor.
“The trishool is a replica of the one existing in Viswanath Mandir at Uttarkasi in Himalayas. It is made of brass with the face measuring six feet in height and four feet in width. The trishool is being erected on a 34-foot high concrete pole,” said Swami Vedantananda, project in-charge.
The temple is coming up in the precincts of Kallar Ashram on the Coonoor- Mettupalayam highway.
“Legend has it that Agasthya Rishi performed long penance on the banks of the Kallar River. The main deity is Shiva in Lingam form.
Lingam was in manadalam jala vasam. It is now in dhanya vasam,” he said.
