HYDERABAD: Grandson of former chief minister of Tamil Nadu and founder of AIADMK MG Ramachandran, Ravindran Ramachandran was arrested by the Hyderabad city police here on Thursday for stealing the credit card of a senior executive of a city-based multinational company, whom he promised to marry, and later threatened her with dire consequences after she reported the matter to the police.

Ravindran Ramachandran also duped another women from the city in a similar manner and according to the police, the accused was involved in such cases in Bangalore and other places also.

Thirty-six year Ravindran Ramachandran, who is married and has a son, was deserted by his family seven years ago following similar complaints against him, police said.

DCP (Detective Department) R S Praveen Kumar said that Ravindran Ramachandran is MGR’s grandson and was living at Dandapani Street in T Nagar in Chennai.

“Ravindran Ramachandran comes into contact with women through matrimonial website, shaadi.com, and lures them to marry him,’’ Praveen Kumar said. Ravindran targeted women working in IT companies and divorcee or unmarried middle-aged women.

In one such case, he trapped a city-based senior executive of a multi-national company, Ramya (name changed) and promised to marry her in the year 2007. “He initially started chatting with her and after becoming close to her, he came to the city to see her,’’ police said.

Ravindran Ramachandran visited the city to meet the woman four-five times and on one occasion, he took Rs 40,000 from the woman stating that he was in need of money. “Between November 25 to December 19, 2007, he stole the ICICI credit card of Ramya and misused it to the extent of Rs 70,000,’’ Praveen Kumar said.

Ramya lodged a complaint with the CCS after she failed to get her money back. Ravindran Ramachandran got to know that Ramya lodged a case against him and started threatening her with dire consequences. “He not only harassed and threatened Ramya for lodging a case but also sent emails and letters to her friends and office colleagues with an intention to defame her and force her to withdraw the complaint,’’ Praveen Kumar said.

Ramya once again lodged a case against Ravindran Ramachandran following which he was arrested by the CCS sleuths from his house at T Nagar in Chennai on Thursday.
