DMK front led in 157 Assembly seats

CHENNAI: During the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections, the DMK-led front had a higher vote share in 157 Assembly constituencies while the AIADMK-led alliance polled more votes in 75 constituencies than their nearest rivals.

A perusal of votes polled in each of the Assembly constituency revealed that the DMK secured more votes than its rivals in 94 constituencies. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), which contested from Vellore Parliamentary constituency, in DMK symbol, got higher votes in all the six Assembly constituencies.

While the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) got higher number of votes in Vanur, Thirukovilur, Ulundurpettai, Jayankondam, Kattumannarkoil, Kunnam, Ariyalur, Bhuvanagiri and Chidambaram Assembly constituencies, the Congress won in 48 constituencies spread throughout the State.

In the AIADMK-led front, the AIADMK secured higher votes in 52 Assembly constituencies in various parts of the State. While the CPI managed to obtained higher votes in eight constituencies and the CPM only in four constituencies. Both parties contested in three Lok Sabha constituencies each.

The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) that contested and lost in seven Lok Sabha seats, secured higher votes only in one Assembly constituency - Maduravoyal, which comes under Sriperumpudur LS constituency where former Union Minister A K Moorthy was defeated by present minister T R Baalu.

Contrary to this, the MDMK, which could win only one LS seat, had got higher votes in 10 Assembly constituencies Thirupparankundram, Sattur, Sivakasi, Mettupalayam, Avinasi, Kumarapalayam, Erode (East), Erode (West), Modakurichi and Kangeyam.  

The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), which drew a blank in Lok Sabha polls, has obtained more votes in two seats Kanyakumari and Nagercoil constituencies.
