KANCHEEPURAM: What is Kancheepuram’s shame seems to be sexual gratification for the teenagers of Tamil Nadu. The hardcore sexual escapades of Machcheshwara Perumal Temple archakar priest Devanathan, videotaped on his mobile phone by himself, is doing the rounds here and some of the footage have even reached foreign shores, thanks to the internet.
The explicit sexual acts, captured in an MMS format on at least 19 files, run for more than 90 minutes, and going by the the calendar hung on the wall of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, they have been shot in the months of June, July and August of this year. The 36-year-old archakar is seen indulging in what would normally be called x-rated sexual acts with at least four different women — from a 30-year-old sari-clad one to a salwar kameez-clad woman in her early twenties.
The archakar, a father of two teenage daughters, hailing from Pazhaiya Seewaram near Walajabad, some 20km from Kancheepuram, was entrusted with doing poojas at the Sivalingam in the moolasthanam of one of the oldest temples in the town. In the footage he is shown taking regular breaks from his ecstatic acts to conduct poojas for waiting devotees.
A couple of weeks ago, after the first set of the sexual footage appeared, inspector Pattabiraman of the Siva Kanchi police station started investigations, but Devanathan escaped the town with his family. The police said they were trying to locate his relatives to trace his whereabouts.
