CHENNAI: Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday said that the efforts of AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa to create a rift between the Congress and the DMK would not succeed because both parties had perfect understanding about each other.
The CM was responding to a barb by Jayalalithaa on whether the DMK had no faith in the Congress in case a Joint Parliamentary Committee was formed to study the 2G spectrum issue.
Writing for DMK party organ Murasoli, Karunanidhi said despite failure in all her efforts to drive a wedge between the Congress and the DMK, Jayalalithaa has been trying her hand in achieving her goal.
"On the one hand, Jayalalithaa is supporting the demand of the BJP for a JPC and on the other, she is extending support to the Congress. Every one in our party is capable of understanding the 'illusionary net' spread by Jayalalithaa for the Congress. The Congress and the DMK have mutual trust," Karunanidhi said.
He also said that understanding the real intention of Jayalalithaa, the CPM had adopted a resolution distancing itself from the AIADMK. But she had not responded to that even after four days had passed.
Stating that he was never opposed to a JPC but had only said the CAG reports were, as per practice, looked into by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Karunanidhi said the PAC was now being headed by senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi. If a JPC was appointed it would be headed by a ruling party member, Karunanidhi said and wondered whether the Opposition had no faith in Joshi.
On DMDK leader Vijayakanth's statement that he would not allow the DMK to come back to power, Karunanidhi, in a sarcastic tone, retorted: "in which film he has said so?"
