PUDUCHERRY: Following sudden heavy rain here on Wednesday, normal life got interrupted and one person was electrocuted. Several school students, however, were saved from a similar fate thanks to a canine.

A fisherman from a village in Tamil Nadu bordering Puducherry, Nagaraj (48), was returning home with his colleague, having decided not to venture into the rough sea, following the heavy rain.

On his way back, a severed wire from a nearby transformer fell on him killing him on the spot.

Seeing this, the people in the area notified the police, who rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

In another incident, a stray dog’s death proved to be fortuitous for students of the Puducherry Government School.

According to sources, the dog while playfully trying to bite the severed electric line in front of the school, died on the spot.

Later, workers from the electricity department shut down electricity in that area and reconnected the line.
