CHENNAI: Karnataka just knocked us off our senses, as the wild beauty of its national parks, the timelessness of its monuments, the untouched beaches and the serenity of the hills came calling through a colourful power-point presentation made by the department of tourism to the media here on Tuesday.

Vinay Luthra, Managing Director of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), who led the audience through the slides, inspired the urge to explore the neighbouring state.

He said, “We are poised to make Karnataka a sought-after destination. Within a span of five to seven years we have grown from being a novice to a definitive gateway to South India.”

KSTDC plans to launch a contest for web users, where the best Tweets, Facebook comments and photographs can win top prizes  like a ride in the famed luxury train the ‘Golden Chariot’ or a stay in jungle lodges and resorts.

The Golden Chariot has introduced the Southern splendour package which covered key tourist spots in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Also in the cards is the launch of the Air Charter Services to Mysore and Hampi. Soon they are going to have the country’s first wildlife safari during night at Bannerghatta National Park.
