VELLORE: Thousands of devotees witnessed the kumbabhishekam of the Lakshmi Narasimhar Temple at Sholingur that was performed on Friday.

Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments K R Periyakaruppan, who participated in the grand event, announced that in an effort to increase the amenities for devotees visiting the temple a rope car facility would be introduced in a year’s time.

The facility, estimated to cost Rs 6.5 crore, would be of great benefit during kumbabishekhams and festivals, the minister said.

The minister said the total expenditure incurred for the festival was estimated to be Rs 25 crore.

Nearly `450 crore has been allocated for 4,500 temples in the State. Collector C Rajendran, DIG of Police Jayaram, MLAs, Gandhi and Gnanasekaran, were present.
