CHENNAI:  Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday said that the State Government had not prepared any list of people coming under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category and that it was not in agreement with the BPL list prepared by the Central Government.

The Chief Minister intervened during the speech of DMDK Whip VC Chandrakumar, who charged that the BPL list prepared by the previous regime did not have genuine BPL families.

The government rule stated that the welfare schemes would be given only to those families under BPL. This acted as a road block in taking the welfare schemes announced by the AIADMK Government to beneficiaries. As such, the government should enlist genuine BPL families, he added.

Intervening, the CM said that Tamil Nadu had not prepared any BPL list so far and it was not in agreement with the BPL list prepared by the Central Government.

The CM pointed out that other States had fixed different prices for people under BPL and those who did not, for goods through PDS. Contrary to this, in TN, all those having a family card get PDS items at similar price.
