CHENNAI: Dubbing the death of Sadhick Batcha, a close aide of former telecom minister A Raja, as “no surprise to those who know DMK’s style of internal justice”, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa demanded that all witnesses in the 2G spectrum scam, especially those in Tamil Nadu, be kept under CBI or judicial custody to prevent a similar fate.

She referred to his suicide as another unpardonable crime to hide the whole truth behind the Himalayan 2G scam.

She asked that Raja, the main accused in the case, be provided with protection to ensure that he does not go “the Sadhick Batcha way”.

Jayalalithaa said Batcha had been the main custodian of Raja’s ill-gotten gains.

“The main aim of the DMK was to keep the CBI from getting closer to the family members of Chief Minister Karunanidhi in this case,” she said, asking the CBI to ascertain if Batcha’s death was a case of murder or forced suicide.

The AIADMK leader had likened his suicide to that of “Stalin’s close associate and known benami”, Anna Nagar Ramesh, in 2001.
