NAGERCOIL: State vice president of Akhila Bharata Hindu Maha Sabha, Maruthi Adigalar was hacked to death by an unidentified gang at Melakrishnanputhoor near here on Tuesday night.

Police said that Sreekumar alias Maruthi Adigalar (33) of Melakrishnanputhoor was the state vice president of a Hindu outfit named ‘Akhila Bharata Hindu Maha Sabha’ and was the caretaker of an Aanjaneyar temple near Melakrishnanputhoor near Pallam. On Tuesday around 7 pm he came to the temple to supervise the arrangements for a ‘yagam’, scheduled to be held on May 8.

While he entered the temple, he was talking with his friend on the mobile phone.

Meanwhile, his friend on the other end heard Maruthi Adigalar shouting that he was being hacked. Immediately, he alerted the police. When the police reached the temple his body was found lying in a pool of blood.

It may be noted that the deceased was the 5th accused in the Krishnan alias Krishnakumar (31) murder case. Krishnan was a rowdy from Melakrishnanputhoor and he was murdered in December last. Mauthi Adigalar was arrested in the case and was out on conditional bail. The deceased is survived by a wife and two children

Dharmapuri: Harur police have arrested a man who sexually abused a 7-year-old girl at Varnatheertham on Tuesday. According to police, Selvi (7) (name changed), daughter of S Arumuthu of Natrampalli near Vaniyampadi, who came to her aunt Rathinamary’s house in Varnatheertham in Harur to spend the summer vacation. When the girl was playing at a nearby temple, S Amalraj (38), a neighbour of Rathinamary,  took her to bushy area and sexually abused her.
