KARAIKAL: AMH Nazeem, the high-profile DMK leader in Puducherry UT, who has been elected for the fifth consecutive term to the Territorial Assembly from Karaikal South, said that he would strive to improve health care facilities this time.

Speaking to Express , Nazeem said he did not see the fifth consecutive win as a great achievement.

“What really matters to me is what I achieve during my term. Mere numbers or number of years as MLA will have no meaning if I do not end up creating a positive impact on the lives of the people,” says Nazeem.

He points out that during all his previous terms, he had been instrumental in bringing various development projects for Karaikal district as a whole and not merely for his constituency alone.

Nazeem entered the electoral fray in 1991 at the age of 29 and has been winning ever since.

He had a meteoric rise and became the Minister for Health and Transport in 1996. In 2006, he became leader of opposition.

“I feel, Karaikal has attained great development in education scenario. During my tenure as Health Minister, I was instrumental in starting a maternity hospital here,” he says.
