HOSUR: First-time MLA KE Krishnamurthy has a lot of plans for his constituency Bargur.
The Jayalalithaa loyalist who has been an AIADMK member from its inception, wants to bring back the constituency’s 1991-96 glory days — the AIADMK chief represented Bargur during her first stint as chief minister in the State.
The 59-year-old Krishnamurthy worked his way up through the party ranks, serving time as former party secretary of Dharmapuri district and putting in 24 years as the party’s Uthangarai Union secretary, and chairman of the union from 1991-96.
He claims his achievements convinced “Amma” to give him a ticket from Bargur in 2011.
When she represented the constituency, Jayalalithaa brought an engineering college, SIPCOT industrial estate, granite factories and a women’s arts college to Bargur besides constructing six major bridges over rivers.
But the AIADMK claims that the DMK government has not maintained those projects during their rule.
“I will take steps to ensure all existing projects brought during AIADMK’s regime are 100 per cent functional,” said Krishnamurthy, who promises to provide adequate drinking water facilities as soon as possible in the constituency.
He will also take steps to attract investments to the industrial estate to create adequate job opportunities for unemployed youths in the constituency.
The agriculturist who defeated the PMK’ TK Raja by a margin of 29,440 votes, also plans to give the famous Bargur Textile Market a facelift.
His constituents can contact him any time, he says, on his mobile at 99765 25765.
Married to Thangamani, a homemaker, Krishnamurthy has two sons — KE Ramesh an MA graduate who works at a private firm in Chennai and KE Suresh, an MBA graduate.
