MADURAI: RB Udhayakumar, hailing from Madurai, is a second generation AIADMK loyalist. His father served as a local branch functionary in Meenakshi Nagar. Udhayakumar holds a Masters degree in Social Work and has completed Law. In 1993 - 94, Udhayakumar was awarded for best social service under the National Services Scheme in the State. He also represented Madurai Kamaraj University in the Republic Day Camp parade in 1994.
He has served the party in various capacities, including district secretary of the students wing of AIADMK and is now its State secretary since 2007.
Prior to the election, Udhayakumar led the students wing on a novel campaign ‘Thinnai Pracharam’. This type of campaign helped AIADMK fare better than DMK. A DVD portraying the achievements of Jayalalithaa and the adverse effects of the DMK regime was also released by the students wing.
