TIRUPUR: Police suspect that a gang of north Indian youth might have been involved in the looting of the Alukkas jewellery store here on Monday night. Gold jewellery amounting to 38 kg was stolen from the shop.

During a spot visit, police recovered four LPG cylinders, which were used to operate the cutting machines to break the ventilator and iron grill inside the UPS room of the shop.

Police recovered various items in a bag used by the burglars. The cylinders were covered with Hindi newspapers.

Meanwhile police located the shop which had sold the cylinder, and the salesman is reported to have said that the cylinder was purchased by a north Indian youth.

Police have accelerated the investigation and the needle of suspicion has turned towards an unidentified gang of north Indian youths.
