CHENNAI: Film director K Bhagyaraj, who shifted his loyalties to the DMK ahead of the 2006 Assembly elections, may return to the AIADMK.

AIADMK general secretary will be giving away prizes to students  who won various contests conducted to mark J Jayalalithaa’s birthday on February 24. Functionaries from various parties are also expected to join the AIADMK at this time. Rumours are doing the rounds that Bhagyaraj may re-join the party in which he was once an active member. When contacted, family members of Bhagyaraj neither denied the reports nor confirmed it.  They said that  Bhagyaraj was out of station and would be returning to the city only on Tuesday morning.

Bhagyaraj joined the DMK on April 5, 2006 in the presence of party president M Karunanidhi and criticised AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa.

Bhagyaraj had said it was a matter of pride for him that late CM, M G Ramachandran, declared him as his ‘film world heir’. On MGR’s demise, Bhagyaraj floated a political party MGR Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam in 1989 but wound it up very soon.
